Makaton Training for Medical Staff

Your support has facilitated Makaton Sign Language training for 20 staff members of the Paediatric Medical Outpatients department. Makaton is a language programme that uses signs and symbols to support those who have learning difficulties to develop essential communication skills including attention and listening, memory, comprehension, recall and organisation.

Makaton training took place within the outpatient’s department, providing staff with the necessary skills to communicate with non-verbal patients and those with learning disabilities. Through improving communication, this promotes inclusivity within patients attending outpatients, enhancing patients experience in hospital and allowing staff to confidently connect with patients no matter their communication needs and styles.

Thanks to your generous donations, delivery of Makaton training enhances the skillset of our staff, creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all patients. We hope to invest further in this area in the future, keeping patient care and needs at the forefront.
